Johor police today warned netizens against making “false and hateful” comments against other individuals online.

State police chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said such acts will not only malign others but can cause public unrest.

He also urged all to be “more sensitive in sharing information which could affect national harmony”.

“Police view this seriously and have used, are using, and will use the law against those who make remarks with seditious tendencies,” he said in a statement.

He said police have commenced investigations under Penal Code, Sedition Act, and Communications and Multimedia Act.

“As the main agency to maintain peace and security, police investigates all reports in a fair and equitable manner, to ensure those responsible faced action,” he said.
