Only 10pct of DBKL traffic summonses paid

Only 116,418 of 1,111,268 traffic offence notices issued by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) from Jan 1 to Oct 31, have been paid.

Federal Territories Deputy Minister Dr Loga Bala Mohan told the Dewan Negara here today, a total of RM7,182,110 was collected. Some 994,850 notices were unpaid.

"For 2013, a total of 1,102,440 notices were issued and only 185,919 were paid, with collection of RM8,480,509, leaving 916,521 notices unpaid.

"For 2014, some 1,153,925 notices were issued and only 147,026 notices were paid with collection of RM9,823,404. Another 1,006,899 notices were unpaid," he said in reply to a question from Senator Dr Hou Kok Chung.

Replying to a supplementary question from Senator Syed Husin Ali, he said the ministry would find a solution to the critical parking problem in the city.

He attributed the parking problem to the increase in urban population and affordability to own more than one car.
