Najib tried to bribe me, says Mahathir
Golfer63:
One way of looking at the current imbroglio is: do we want former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad back?
I remember in 1997 when he wanted to build a new international airport in Sungai Petani and close down Penang's airport when it is completed.
When then Penang CM Koh Tsu Koon protested that it would inconvenient Penang, Mahathir said a new bridge could be built to link Penang with the new airport.
In Malaysia, you cannot control politics without money. That's why Mahathir was able to influence so many politicians.
PM Najib Razak, unlike Abdullah Ahmad Badawi before him, wanted to be his own man, hence his emphasis on money.
Unfortunately, this is how Malaysia works. We have no choice but to accept the lesser evil.
Anonymous 2388551449562986: It occurred to me that despite all the brouhaha on the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ and 1MDB scandal, Malaysia had not lost that much money compared to the forex debacle and the tin market debacle under Mahathir when the country lost billions of ringgit.
I see the parallel in Mahathir's accusations against his former deputy, Anwar Ibrahim, and now his accusations against Najib. It’s all to promote his personal agenda. As a master propagandist, he sure had the rakyat fooled.
When Mahathir was PM, he also incurred enormous debts. Bank Bumiputera Malaysia Berhad (BBMB) was in debt, more than once, and was forced to be bailed out by Petronas. BBMB was viable before Mahathir took the helm. Then it got ruined under Mahathir’s watch.
Petronas also had to bail out his son’s company. He wanted RM2 billion but Anwar agreed to only RM1 billion and Mahathir never forgave him for that.
A year later, Mahathir threw Anwar into jail on allegations of sexual misconduct when actually it was for some other reason. And that other reason was Anwar was trying to oust Mahathir just like Muhyiddin Yassin is trying to oust Najib.
And then Mahathir was forced to sell Malaysia’s national airline company, MAS, to cover the RM30 billion forex losses (but he later bought it back at a huge loss).
RM30 billion at that time is worth RM50 billion today, more than the RM42 billion that Mahathir is grumbling about.
And the list goes on and on but I think you get my point. My point is what Mahathir is saying is not quite true. So either he has forgotten or he thinks we have.
Anonymous 2385641449464243: It's better to give some space to Najib as he is facing so many attacks from all sides. Moreover, this is not the time to fight as he is busy developing the country.
Multi Racial: I am surprised there are some people still defending Najib. I know Dr M has done many wrong things during his reign. Make no mistake, the majority Malaysians are still unhappy about that.
But now, we are talking about the massive corruption Dr M is accusing Najib. This occurred in 2013 and Najib did not disclose anything about the so-called donation he was referring to until The Wall Street Journal disclosed it five months ago.
He didn't even disclose this to his own party then. Najib until today cannot give any satisfactory explanation on the mammoth ‘donation’.
So please fellow Malaysians, if Najib is innocent then he should be step aside to allow the authorities to investigate independently. He should have nothing to fear if he is innocent.
How can any authorities do their job impartially and properly if the accused has control over them? See what happened to the previous attorney-general and several other officers.
Not to mention, the Umno deputy president and vice-president were both sacked from their cabinet positions for asking too many questions.
Whatshappening: Please have some respect for Dr M. He has brought Malaysia to great heights and he knows how to run the country.
At least during his time, we do not feel the pinch, and life proceeds smoothly. Also, the rakyat did not face so much problems.
Now the cost of everything goes up - electricity, property, food.
Saya Pun Nak Cari Makan: No matter how thick Najib's skin is, he must feel this super stinging shot that he was trying to bribe Mahathir.
And, those who have been suspicious of Najib's way - I help you, you help me - confirms their belief.
Where is Najib going to hide his face? Would he shamelessly talk as if he is a warrior? A warrior who is accused of bribery?
n1: If Najib can have RM2.6 billion in his personal account and call it a donation, all bribes can also be called donation since there is no longer reason to arrest anyone.
I wonder why we have so many people without logic, who can't or refuse to see the problem.
Goldee: What’s new? It has been the same old thing – corruption, corruption and corruption. The difference now is the amount.
Roger 5201: Dr M has asked some very relevant questions but it is too late now because he is increasingly irrelevant as Najib consolidates his hold on Umno.
Both parties are claiming the moral high ground, but when it comes to morality versus money, cash is still king!
