Relook RM3,000 measure for urban poor, urges Puteri Umno chief

UMNO AGM The government should review the definition or measurement of the household income for urban poor following the rising cost of living burdening the urban dwellers.

Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said categorising the urban poor as having a household income of below RM3,000 per month was no longer relevant now especially with the recent increase in transport cost.

"It is not only the opposition but our loyal supporters too have voiced their dissatisfaction," she told Bernama when visiting the media centre during the 2015 Umno general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.

Mas Ermieyati said the issue on the rising living cost which had drawn interest at the general assemblies of the Umno Youth and Puteri movements on Wednesday showed that the younger generation in the party wanted the government to pay serious attention to the problem.

When delivering the policy speech at the Puteri Umno general assembly, she had touched on the fares for public transport including the Light Rail Transit, Express Rail Link, and the Rapid transit buses which were enjoying a season of price hikes which had a deep impact on the young people.
