A commotion broke out at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) lobby today when a group of Umno president Najib Abdul Razak's supporters heckled a group of party rebels.
The nine branch leaders from the Teluk Kemang Umno division were speaking to the media outside the Teratai room when the group led by Malay Retired Armed Forces Veterans chief Mohamad Ali Baharom, also known as Ali Tinju, started shouting at them.
They shouted " Hidup presiden Umno " and " Hidup Najib ".
One of the hecklers told the nine to quit the party and join PKR.
Of the 'Rebel 9', eight who are Teluk Kemang Umno leaders were recently suspended from party polls for six years for criticising Najib while one, who is an ordinary member, will be expelled.
The hecklers also demanded that the Umno rebels quit Umno if they did not like Najib.
"Long live the Umno president. If you don't support the president then quit the party.
"Go join PKR or DAP, go! Go!" they yelled.
After the hecklers left, Kamarulzaman Habibur Rahman who heads the Umno rebels continued to address the media, claiming that Umno was 'very ill'.
He added the party's general assembly over the last five days had failed to revive its spirit.
"It proves that Umno is being led by leaders without calibre.
"This general assembly will be remembered by history as the one that led to the collapse of Umno," he said.
