UMNO AGM Umno president Najib Abdul Razak wasted no time flaying his critics today, by making it the first agenda of his closing speech at the Umno AGM today.

While he mentioned no names, the prime minister slammed those whom he said were not loyal to their leaders and made wild accusations against him.

"As Malays we are taught to respect one another, we are taught to obey our leaders.

"(Islam) teaches us that when we hear rumours, we must study it first.

"But they hear stories from God knows where, and believe it.

"1MDB has RM42 billion debt? They accept it. When they have no evidence, they change (their) stories," Najib told delegates at the Umno general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre today.

It was clear that Najib aimed his winding-up speech at his deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, who is in the hall, and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The Umno president said loyalty is important, as challenging leaders and in-fighting are very destructive.

He said these had led to the downfall of the Malacca sultanate, and even the Ottoman empire.

"If there is no loyalty, Umno too will be destroyed," he said.

Najib is engaged in a bitter feud with Muhyiddin and Mahathir, who have been attacking him over the 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion donation scandals.

Despite the feud, he extended an olive branch to Muhyiddin, and also sidelined vice-president Shafie Apdal today.

Muhyiddin, however, remains unconvinced.
