UMNO AGM Umno president Najib Abdul Razak took advantage of his time on stage at the Umno general assembly today, to convince the delegates about the benefits of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) by pandering to Malay sentiments.

He said with the business opportunities opened up by signing the multinational free trade agreement, Malay entrepreneurs, especially from Umno, can go global.

"We can send our people out there [...] they can carry the Umno flag on an international stage," Najib said in his winding-up speech.

He said under Umno-BN, Malaysia will also succeed on a global stage.

He added that Malays will not lose their rights if the multinational free trade agreement is signed.

"The 11 countries negotiating the TPPA, including the US, have agreed that the bumiputra agenda has to be protected under the agreement.

"So if Vietnam, which was an enemy of the US in 70s, is not afraid of the TPPA, why are we?

"Surely, we are not afraid of competing with others," he told the delegates.
