Ringgit ends weaker against US dollar
The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar today, dampened by the stronger greenback and lower crude oil prices, a dealer said.
At 5pm, the local unit was quoted at 4.3220/3290 against the greenback from 4.2900/2950 on Friday.
The dealer said the US dollar regained its strength last week following more job creation in November, indicating a continuous recovery in the US job market.
“This suggested that the Federal Reserve was drawing closer to a December interest rate, with the Federal Open Market Committee meeting scheduled for Dec 15-16,” he said.
The local note also traded lower against other major currencies at closing today.
It went down against the Singapore dollar to 3.0648/0704 from Friday’s close of 3.0484/0543, and was lower against the yen at 3.5660/5721 from 3.5199/5251.
The ringgit also declined against the British pound to 6.5483/5602 from Friday’s close of 6.5049/5142, and eased against the euro to 4.7339/7420 from 4.7048/7112.
