Under fire for allegedly urging academic interference, UKM student Muhammad Farhan Khairuddin now says that his speech at the Umno AGM was "manipulated" by BH Online .
BH Online is the online version of Berita Harian , a member of the Umno-linked NSTP Bhd group.
"I am disappointed that the contents of my speech at the Umno AGM were manipulated...
"I swear to God, my statement is not as reported in BH Online ," Farhan said on his Facebook page.
He said he had called on lecturers who "abuse their powers to manipulate government policies" to be monitored.
In his speech, he also said that "such issues should be discussed in an academic manner, without political influence".
'I am badly condemned'
Farhan also complained that BH Online did not highlight his proposal to revive student discounts and other cost of living issues.
He also lamented how the announcement of a 50 percent fare discount for students, the disabled and senior citizens was not widely reported.
"I am badly condemned, but have you all read my entire speech or merely read BH Online 's controversial headline?" he asked.
BH Online 's headline reads: 'Monitor lecturers who are prone to reject the government: student delegate'.
"The government and Umno must monitor lecturers who stir student sentiments to reject the government.
"Students are more interested in choosing their lecturers than politicians," Farhan is quoted as saying.
This prompted UKM student welfare association, Student Unity Front, to call for Farhan's resignation from the student representative council.
SUF said Farhan is unfit to serve because he called for academic interference.
