PAS number two: Allah tells us to cooperate for goodness

PAS has never ruled out possibility of cooperation with anyone because Allah calls on Muslims to cooperate for the sake of goodness, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

He said this after Umno president Najib Abdul Razak extended PAS an olive branch and called for cooperation betweent the two parties.

“I would like to remind that the PAS leadership has never opposed any form of cooperation with anyone because this is Allah’s command,” he said.

He cited a Quranic verse which calls on Muslims to cooperate on the path of righteousness, but not to do things which are sinful or cause enmity.

However, he said, PAS will not share its vote bank with Umno because it “does not want to share the burden of Umno’s betrayal to the religion”.

He said while Najib’s claim that the cooperation is to ensure the country is governed in accordance with syariah is “good news”, he needs to put words into action first.

'Chronic rot under Umno-BN'

“PAS will not unite to condone unIslamic acts like whitewashing corruption to protect a single leader.

“The reality is, this country needs to be saved from chronic rot under the Umno-BN administration,” he said.

“PAS will continue to pressure Umno to drop its nationalist struggle for an Islamic struggle, and this can only happen if PAS remains Umno’s competition,” he said.

Najib extended the olive branch in his policy speech at the Umno AGM last week.

PAS Youth said this is welcomed since any suggestions from the opposition were previously rejected wholesale.

The PAS Supporter’s Wing, however, rejected any cooperation with Umno.
