The bands Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple and NWA, along with musician Steve Miller, are the 2016 inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland, Ohio-based organisation announced yesterday.

The new hall of fame members, taken from 15 nominees, were chosen based on an online fan poll combined with 800 designated Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voters.

The induction ceremony will take place in New York in April.

Artists are eligible for the honour 25 years after their first musical release. Among the 2015 inductees were punk-pop band Green Day, drummer Ringo Starr of The Beatles, and the late Lou Reed, who died in 2013.
