In an apparent dig at Umno, Malay rights group Perkasa today proclaimed itself as an “inclusive” organisation.

Perkasa vice-president Syed Osman Syed Mansor pointed out how the group allows its vice-president to officiate at the wings’ respective assemblies.

“Perkasa is quite different from other organisations in that a vice-president can officiate at a wing’s meeting.

“There are some groups where the vice-president is not allowed to do so,” he said in his speech before officiating at Perkasa Wira’s annual conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Syed Osman may not have mentioned names, but Umno’s annual general assembly last week saw the party breaking tradition by allowing the party's Wanita, Youth and Puteri’s chiefs to officiate at their respective wings’ assemblies.

By convention, the party’s deputy president is the one who officiates at the wings’ assemblies.

Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin was barred from doing so after party president Najib Abdul Razak claimed that it was the wish of the respective wings’ chiefs to officiate at their own assemblies.
