Vaping issue - Perak wants federal directive

The Perak government has requested the federal government to be firm and make a uniformed decision relating to the use of the electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) or vape nationwide.

Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir said the state government was ready to adopt the decision of the federal government on the issue.

"The state government has decided to seek confirmation from the federal government regarding the use of vape," he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting in Ipoh today.

He said the federal government should make an official decision to avoid speculation or controversy over the use of vape.

"I request the federal government to draw up regulations on matters such as vape, cigarettes and the others and make these regulations official.

"We cannot let the media and the public continue to speculate and give different views and engage in debates that are not beneficial to anyone," he added.

Zambry said the state government would also take into account the advice or opinions of related parties, including Perak Mufti Dr Harussani Zakaria on the vape issue.

"The report submitted by the Health Ministry will also be taken into account."

Earlier, Zambry witnessed an agreement signing ceremony for development and management of farmland, Mukim Pulau Kamiri, Kuala Kangsar District between Kolej Universiti Islam Sultan Azlan Shah and the Perak Agriculture Development Corporation.
