Moonlighting not a solution, Perlis mufti tells Ahmad Maslan

Outspoken Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin is the latest to jump on the bandwagon in ticking off Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Ahmad Maslan.

Commenting on Ahmad’s suggestion that Malaysians should juggle two jobs to tackle the rising cost of living, Asri argued that a minister should be the one who finds solutions for the rakyat instead of making suggestions that will further burden them.

“A minister must be someone who is sane, wise and competent in solving the rakyat as well as the country’s problems.

“If a wise mind and competency are not needed to become a minister, then what is the advantage of the post that it needs to be given a salary as well as special privileges?” asked Asri in a Facebook post today.

He may not have mentioned any names in his post, but it is clear that the exasperated Facebook status was aimed at Ahmad.

Defending his remarks made over the weekend, Ahmad today pointed out how he himself holds three jobs .

"I have three jobs – MP, deputy minister, and Umno information chief. Many in Malaysia are working two jobs. Working hard to make an honest living,” he tweeted today.

His defence, however, has not been well received and is being made the butt of jokes among Twitter users through the 2kerja and buat2kerja hashtags.
