National Water Services Commission (Span) chairperson Ismail Kasim said today the new water tariff for non-domestic consumers in Malacca will take effect on Friday.
“Domestic users are not affected by the adjustment of the tariff,” he said in a statement.
The adjustment of the tariff was decided upon after taking into account a proposal by Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad.
The new tariff for non-domestic consumers is RM2 for use of up to 50 cubic metres; RM2.05 for 51 cubic metres to 100 cubic metres and RM2.15 for over 100 cubic metres.
For domestic consumers, the tariff remains at 60 sen for up to 20 cubic metres; 95 sen for 21 cubic metres to 35 cubic metres and RM1.45 for over 35 cubic metres.
A total of 26,749 non-domestic consumer accounts showed usage of not more than 50 cubic metres per month; 2,528 accounts of between 51 cubic metres to 100 cubic metres and 2,750 accounts of over 100 cubic metres.
Ismail said the new tariff for the shipping and water reprocessing category was set at RM7 per cubic metre and involved 422 accounts.
The last time the water tariff in Malacca was reviewed and adjusted was on April 1, 2011.
