Pakatan Harapan will soon unveil a document outlining its plans to topple the Umno-led BN government through elections.
"God willing, soon Harapan will make a big announcement about a document that will close our leadership ranks, and also (outline) our efforts to topple Umno-BN through elections.
"I believe this document will be an important basis which will once again prove that PKR, together with the other Harapan component parties, is prepared to take the responsibility of governing Putrajaya," Opposition Leader Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said in her 2016 new year address.
It is not clear what the document is, but Harapan chief secretary Saifuddin Abdullah has said that a common policy framework for the pact would be announced early this year.
Though similar claims had been made about the previous Pakatan Rakyat to no avail. The lack of a proper framework hobbling the now defunct opposition coalition. A danger which Harapan May yet face.
In any case, the shift towards focusing on the next election comes after Harapan failed to vote out Budget 2016, and show that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak doesn't command majority confidence in the House.
If they can truly get their act together, 2016 looks to be an interesting year for the opposition.
PAS has begun to lean closer to Umno, raising speculation that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is steering the Islamist party towards political cooperation with the ruling Malay party.
This leads to a quandary for the opposition in Selangor, where PKR's Azmin Ali is trying to balance PAS' role in the state government.
Meanwhile, Wan Azizah said many issues still plague Malaysia, including the jailing of her husband Anwar Ibrahim, the RM2.6 billion donation into Najib's personal accounts, 1MDB, and the National Security Council Act.
"In 2016, I believe we all have to pray a lot, and continue to be steadfast in our struggle to uphold justice and fight tyranny in Malaysia," the PKR president added.
