PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will deliver a special briefing to party leaders this Saturday, on its proposed cooperation with Umno, said party secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, in a Sinar Harian report today.

However, Takiyuddin declined to divulge its place and time.

“Central party leaders, state leaders and elected representatives will attend the special briefing. It will focus on the present political situation and PAS current affairs, including the issue of the party cooperating with Umno. Whatever is not clear would be explained further and detailed explanations given,” he reportedly said.

The party secretary-general said what Abdul Hadi does is decided by the party.

“It's not an individual's decision but made after discussions. Now we want to inform party members of our stand.”

Previously, it was reported that the mooted cooperation with Umno was initiated by Abdul Hadi and not done through the party channels or the party's muktamar (general assembly).

Asked to comment on concerns by former party vice-president Husam Musa, who is worried that the proposed cooperation would have an impact on the Malays and whether it would protect the Umno agenda by giving it a lifeline, Takiyuddin said Husam should attend the briefing.

Takiyuddin, who is also a lawyer, said Husam may not understand the meaning of cooperation between PAS and Umno as envisioned by Abdul Hadi.

“However, this would depend on Husam's intention (of wanting to know about the cooperation),” the party secretary-general, who is also Kota Baru MP, said.
