Police arrested 808 people for various offences under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (POCA) last year, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said.

A total of 188 of the 808 were subjected to detention order and 403 to restraining order, Khalid said in posts on his Facebook and Twitter accounts.

"257 of the 403 were subjected to wearing the electronic monitoring devices, while the rest of the cases are still under action," he said.

Khalid also said that of those arrested, 57 were involved with organising gambling, 18 were pimps and 42 had been held under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
