Ringgit rebounds to close higher against US dollar

The ringgit rebounded to close higher against the US dollar today on strong investor demand for the local currency, a dealer said.

At 5pm, the local unit rose to 4.3400/3450 from Monday's 4.3450/3530.

The trend was also in tandem with the Malaysian equities, which showed a positive momentum in today's trading.

"The ringgit also tracks the movements of other emerging Asean currencies as China's moves in stabilising its equity market had aided the sentiment," he said.

The local currency also appreciated against other major currencies.

It ended higher against the Singapore dollar to 3.0460/0500 from yesterday's 3.0513/0582 and it went up to 6.3373/3832 from 6.4171/4298 versus the British pound yesterday.

The ringgit strengthened against the yen to 3.6409/4464 from 3.6510/6580 on Monday and vis-a-vis the euro, it improved to 4.6820/6891 from 4.7456/7557 previously.
