Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar denied that he is the mystery man who made an undisclosed offer for fugitive Sirul Azhar Umar to make statements that would benefit certain quarters "politically".

"I have not been in contact with Sirul for a long time, but if he wants to speak up, then that is his right to clear his and his family's name," Mahfuz told Malaysiakini .

Sirul, together with Azilah Hadri, both police commandos, were in February last year sentenced to death for the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu which happened in 2006.
