Kelantan deputy MB Nik Amar Nik Abdullah predicts that the newly-formed opposition pact may need “Tongkat Ali” if it wants to last longer in the political arena.

The state PAS commissioner II said this when asked to comment on the future of the nascent opposition pact, which held its first high-level leadership meeting in Shah Alam today.

“As to the life-span of Pakatan Harapan, I don’t know.

"If they take ‘Tongkat Ali’ it may be longer,” he told reporters whilst chuckling, referring to the popular sexual performance enhancement supplement.

He was speaking prior to attending the Islamic party’s special presidential briefing in Taman Melewar.

Nik Amar also refused to comment on the pact’s agreement to stop their trademark ‘agreeing to disagree’ stance on key issues.

Indeed, Nik Mohd Amar is not alone in predicting little hope for Harapan, as analysts and observers continue to doubt their continued survival.

PAS’ research centre had earlier predicted that the pact’s lifespan will be shorter than its predecessor Pakatan Rakyat.

The centre came to this conclusion based on the ongoing conflicts between Harapan components, as well as the prevalence of internal issues plaguing the individual parties, predicting that the pact won’t last long past the 14th general election.

The special PAS briefing today, which was to discuss recent developments affecting the party, began at 9am and was attended by party president Abdul Hadi Awang, though he left without speaking to reporters.
