Help is on hand for the civil servant who had purportedly landed in trouble over a Facebook posting stating that her New Year's wish was for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor to "sedar diri " (come to their senses).

Lawyer Mohd Fadzly Mohd Ramly told Malaysiakini that the Malaysian Lawyers and Human Rights Association (Proguam) is offering legal aid to the Community Development Department (Kemas) officer.

“In this case, I believe that her statement can be considered as fair comment and there are no elements of slander or defamation.

“We are looking for her. She can contact us and we will provide her with legal assistance,” said Fadzly, who is Proguam Pahang chairman.

He added that the original posting appears to be a spontaneous reaction from a rakyat who is frustrated with the country’s current situation.

Aside from taking a swipe at Najib and Rosmah ( photo ), she had also mocked Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Ahmad Maslan, saying she hoped the latter would not make “ lawak bodoh ” (ridiculous jokes).

It is believed that the officer works at a Kemas kindergarten in Kuantan.

She was allegedly issued with a show-cause letter dated Jan 4 and given seven days to respond or face disciplinary action under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulation 1993.

Her Facebook account was deactivated shortly after the alleged show-cause letter signed by Kuantan Kemas officer Ahmad Mazuki Salleh had gone viral on social media.

The letter stated the Facebook post could cause negative perception, and that the irresponsible act could tarnish the reputation of Kemas, the government and civil service.
