Two more Pahang Lands and Mines officers held in bauxite probe

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained two more Pahang Land and Mines (PTG) officers in connection with alleged illegal bauxite mining activities in Kuantan.

MACC investigation director Azam Baki said a six-day remand order on the suspects aged 51 and 57 was issued today by Magistrate Noor Aisah Mohamed.

The duo are among six PTG officers summoned to the MACC’s office in Kuantan yesterday to give their statement on the alleged sale to illegal mining operators, of 13D forms that are required for transferring out the ore.

The PTG office usually charges RM1 each for the forms referred to as dockets by local residents but an investigation by MACC found that they were being sold for between RM150 and RM200 each.

To date, nine people have been roped in by the MACC comprising six PTG officers and three members of the public.
