Three men arrested for attending a candlelight vigil outside the Johor Baru Utara district police headquarters on Sunday have been released from police custody.

Silvarajah Erusam and Saiful Adli Jamian, both from PSM and Mohd Afiq Ayob from Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (Samm) were released on police bail until Jan 26.

"After Jan 26, their lawyers will communicate with the police as to whether bail will be extended or if they have to go to court," PSM secretary-general A Sivarajan (photo) told Malaysiakini today.

Sivarajan too had been detained together with the three outside the district police headquarters yesterday, moments after PSM activist Khairul Nizam Abd Ghani was released.

Sivarajan was released after police determined he was not at the candlelight vigil which was organised to show solidarity with Khairul.

"It was just a normal candlelight vigil. It is up to the police to prove if they have a case," the PSM chief said when asked why police had acted against the three.

The case is being investigated under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act.
