YOURSAY | ‘Those racists from Putrajaya-backed IKSiM is trying to twist history.’

'Islamic humanity shown when non-Malays became citizens'

Malaccan: Institute of Islamic Strategic Research Malaysia (IKSiM) CEO Mohamad Naser Disa ( right in photo ) is trying to come up with reasons after the fact. Hence one might consider his scholarship dishonest.

One derives reasons from the act and do not impute reasons into the act, and be honest academically. One wonders how he might have ever been considered a scholar.

True, many Malays are generous and as such many Muslims are generous too. How is that different from any other races or believers of other faiths?

Naser then equals one act as evidence that the same trait exists today. He does not offer much basis for his claims, and accordingly his claim that Malaysia was not a secular country suffers from the same lack of basis.

He ignored what the founding fathers said about the nation, and even what the judiciary had said before that institution fell into disrepute.

That Naser is merely doing the bidding of his paymaster and perhaps even for his personal benefit, is understandable, but it does not make it any more palatable to any honest, thoughtful and reasonable person.

Anonymous$&@?: These racists from Putrajaya-backed IKSiM is trying to twist history to show how generous the Malays have been in granting citizenship to the non-Malays.

Please interpret history in its original form and not from local school history books, which is Umno's version.

Anonymous 2358311441466692: I am sure that Islam is against giving false testimony. So please refrain from spreading falsehood.

The citizenship matter was settled when the British gave independence to this country. If you want to then talk about religion, Christianity was the religion of the British. But that has nothing to do with citizenship.

Anonymous 1032351442384485: Yes, it was the British who brought the Chinese to work in the tin mines, and it was the British who brought the Indian to work in the rubber plantations.

To protect the British commercial interests, they set the precondition of granting citizenship to both Chinese and Indians before Malaysia can be granted independence.

Don’t forget, it was China’s Ming Empire fleet under Admiral Zheng-he which granted protection to the Malacca sultanate from the invading Siam Kingdom that enable the Malay Sultanate and its decedents continual rule over Peninsula Malaya, otherwise this land will be called Tanah Siam instead of Tanah Melayu.

Prudent: Before the Chinese came to open up the country, the Malays were confined to the river banks where they were few in numbers, no more than a few thousand and under 20,000 in most states.

They could not move into the interior - malaria and the inability to clear the jungle and cultivate the land with crops other than padi ensure that they are confined to the coastal plains and river deltas. Lack of agricultural productivity also ensure a low population.

When the Chinese came, they opened up the interior and jumped started the economy with their tin-mining and commerce which multiplied the wealth produced from tin and rubber manifold such that the economy can support state governments and a federal administration.

Malaria did not affect them much since they already possess a cure for malaria from the artemisinin weed. Perak, Selangor and Johor was opened up.

In fact, the ancestor of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Abu Bakar, would not be able to develop the state without the help of the Chinese.

ConstitutionIsSupreme: Naser, the granting of citizenship to non-Malays is a precondition for independance set by the British.

As the CEO of an NGO, your position demands a straightforward fact-based argument and not just hearsay.

Anonymous 2299391436500295: Naser’s statement that blacks could not vote until 1965 in the United States is completely and totally false. The 15th Amendment extended voting rights to blacks in 1869.

The Islamic "scholar" is either a liar or ignorant or more likely both. The fact is that until the mid-1960s, some states in the Deep South made it difficult for blacks to register to vote due to unreasonable identification procedures.

Debater: Citizenship is granted not by Islamic humanity but by secular law. When Malaysia was formed, it was by the struggle and contribution of all races of different religions. Islam is a religion not a political party.

Anonymous Hotplate: There are so many good ways to show your humanity.

First, ask the PM to admit his wrongdoings and quit, so as to enable good leaders to put the country back on the right track. That will be a great show of humanity for all races, not only non-Malays.

Real Truth: Naser, I agree with you regarding Islamic humanity. I hope you could show similar humanity to the fleeing Syrians and invite them here, rather than them going to a cold German environment with the Christian majority.

Please invite them to come here as citizens of our country. You could send a humanitarian ship to pick them up. This will prevent them from drowning in to the icy cold waters.
