DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang has denied cooking up a lie about Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali seeking his help to avoid detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

While he confirmed that the two never met, the Gelang Patah MP said Ibrahim did call him to ask for aid.

"I confirm that we never met in the 70s when I was parliamentary oppposition leader and he was a student leader.

"(But) he contacted me by phone one day when he frantically sought my help because the Special Branch was after him and he feared he would be detained under the ISA." Lim said in a statement today.

The DAP leader reiterated that Ibrahim did not deny this when it was first mentioned in 2010.

Lim said it is now up to Ibrahim to "wrestle with his conscience" and decide whether or not to admit to the incident.

He also advised the former Pasir Mas MP to be honest and to "stop living in a world built on stilts of lies", if he wants his words to be respected.

When contacted, Ibrahim vehemently denied Lim's assertion.

"I never called him, I swear by the name of Allah, as far as I can remember I did not call this man by the name of Lim Kit Siang.

"He doesn't have solid reasons or points to attack me, so he created a story. He is the father of liars. I pity him.

"What time would I have to call him, after the protest 11 people were arrested. Maybe the one who called was (then student leader and current activist) Hishamuddin Rais," Ibrahim told Malaysiakini .
