The National Consultative Committee On Political Funding has identified four major issues that needs in-depth study.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low, who heads to committee, said one of the issues included the sources of private and public funding for political purposes.

The other issues were regulation of political funding, legal and institutional frameworks and political cultures and practices.

Low said the need to study these issues stemmed from meetings with various groups, including members of the youth parliament, Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (Samm).

"All interested parties are welcome to provide their views on the said matters directly to the committee's secretariat at the Malaysian Institute of Integrity as well as through the committee's dedicated Facebook page ," said Low in a statement today.

The minister said the committee was also expected to engage with groups in Sabah and Sarawak in the near future.

The committee, formed in August last year, was tasked with formulating a plan to regulate political funding in the run-up to the next general election.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak announced the formation of the committee after coming under intense pressure over the RM2.6 billion 'political funding' deposited into his personal bank accounts.

Najib has claimed the funds had come from an undisclosed Arab donor.
