Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today urged Malaysians not to misuse social media to make fun of or ridicule others.

"We have to respect each other, especially on the social media.

"We can't use social media to make fun of each other (or) to ridicule each other," Najib said at the launch of Wisma Hua Zhong in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

He stressed that Malaysians must move beyond merely tolerating one another, to mutual respect.

This, he said, will take Malaysia to a higher level.

"Respecting each other's values, faiths and beliefs, is an integral part in ensuring that this role is achieved in the long run," the premier noted.

On a separate matter, Najib acknowleged that the government is aware of the goods and services tax's (GST) unpopularity on the ground.

"We are listening to the views, and we will make corrective actions so the implementation of GST will be accepted by people and businesses," he said.

However, the premier did not elaborate on what these corrective measures would be.

Meanwhile, Najib was reported as saying yesterday that the six percent GST would not be increased, despite the country’s falling revenue.
