If Azilah can be pardoned, what about Anwar?

Buttman: Each day that passes with former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim languishing in jail while certain people roam free in their luxury jet - with their unlimited expense accounts and their political impunity - is another nail in the coffin of a nation that has ventured dangerously close to a bottomless, moral abyss.

Let it not be said that Malaysia died prematurely of terminal tempurungitis.

Roguekiller: While some of us sympathise with former Special Action Force (UTK) officer Azilah Hadri's fate, the fact is he killed a woman allegedly carrying an unborn child. He might have done it under orders, but who ordered him?

While a uniformed personnel, army or police, must obey orders implicitly, one must weigh carefully an order to kill an innocent woman who had done no wrong and was not a risk to people or property.

Worse still, he is allegedly protecting the ‘real’ murderer by not revealing his identity. If Azilah prefers to keep mum, he should die on the murderer's behalf.

Clemency can only be considered if the 'real’ murderer is revealed and Azilah was under direct order to commit the sin.

CQ Muar: I concur with the views expressed by commentator ‘Roguekiller’. The monstrosity of the heinous crime with regard to the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu was far-reaching and went beyond human imagination.

The fact that political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, who was allegedly implicated, was acquitted without his defence being called, was absolutely mind-boggling to many ordinary Malaysians, and those in other parts of the world who were following the case.

Conversely, with regard to the case of Anwar, the majority of the population were sceptical and dumbfounded when he was imprisoned.

Is this what justice is all about in this country? Is our judicial system so lopsided and bent towards those in high office or the government of the day?

If a murder had taken place under influence of unseen hands, Azilah must bear the consequence and be punished accordingly.

No one must break the law regardless of the authority given by anyone. Accordingly, Anwar must be pardoned, being a prisoner of conscience, should Azilah be given clemency.

Wg321: The Number One person will advise the Pardons Board to pardon Anwar only on one condition. The condition is that after being pardoned, he must leave the country for good and settle down in a country like Australia, etc.

Over there, he can seek the best medical treatment for his shoulder injury, back injury, etc, which was denied to him in Malaysia.

The Number One will gain a lot of goodwill if he can do that. US President Barack Obama will love to play golf with him even more.

It’s obvious that Anwar will never see daylight if Umno-BN had its way, and you know the reason why, so stop writing such articles.

AeganKing: We need to respect the Malaysian law. It doesn't mean if Azilah can be released, other people also can be released. The law is equal to all.

Gotcha: This is the result of extremism. All Malaysians must seriously take note of religious extremism, which can cripple the country. The government must take serious steps against those promoting extremism.

Obs: The scourge of Islamic terrorism was fuelled by Arab oil money, both from Arab governments and donations by individuals.

The low oil price is probably a god-sent solution. The best solution is to starve them. Without money, they can’t last long. The US should pump more shale oil and shale gas to keep the oil price low.

We Malaysians will also benefit, as without oil revenue, the BN government will be weakened. It is the price we have to pay to rid ourselves of thieves and crooks.
