Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali has urged the state's civil servants to be loyal to the sultan, instead of to politicians.

"I would like to invite all Selangor civil servants to uphold the civil service charter which is very clear.

"All civil servants do not need to be loyal to politicians and political parties, they only pledge loyalty to his royal highness the Tuanku, country and state," Azmin said.

He was speaking during the monthly gathering of the state's civil servants in Shah Alam today.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, said politicians come and go as they are reliant on elections but civil servants will always be there to ensure the continuity of the state administration.

As such, he said, loyalty to the monarch would ensure civil servants are ethical, clean and responsible and do not compromise their principles for politicians.

"Do not ever compromise your good principle and ethics for the powers-that-be, particularly for those who are trying to defend their position as the credibility of the civil service will come into question," Azmin warned.
