Selangor gov’t to work with police over militant threats

The Selangor government today expressed its preparedness to work with the police against crime, including the threat posed by Daesh militants, in the state.

Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said racial and religious diversity in Selangor was no reason for any quarters to carry out extremist activities in the state.

“We have regular talks and discussions with the police, but more towards curbing crime in Selangor.

“However, the state government is ready to work with the police on the Daesh issue to play its role in the context of maintaining peace and security in the state,” he told reporters after attending the monthly meeting of state government agencies in Shah Alam.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar had announced that the police had raised the security alert to the highest level in Malaysia after a militant bomb attack in Jakarta last Thursday.

Eight people, five of them militants, died in the attack outside a shopping mall in the Indonesian capital.
