PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli said his statement that Pakatan Harapan needs to ramp up its efforts in dealing with the Malay electorate does not mean that it will come at the expense of other races.

He added that this is a matter of strategy and will not alter the opposition coalition's direction for a non-racial agenda.

"What we say is in the context of all Malaysians but there are certain specific issues that we need to address.

"That is why I said we need to accept the reality that the way we communicate our message to Malay voters must be improved.

"It doesn't mean when we have improvement in dealing with Malay voters, we are sidelining other races or the stance of component parties in Pakatan Harapan," he told a press conference at the DAP headquarters today.

Ultimately, Rafizi ( photo ) said Harapan's approach to problems will be from a multi-racial perspective in contrast to BN's racial approach.

The opposition coalition has struggled in securing strong Malay support and is now facing the risk of further erosion following the departure of PAS.

Rafizi said Harapan will unveil its direction in detail after the Sarawak election in March or April, and promised a more radical approach.

"It will provide a clear vision to Malaysians for them to choose Pakatan Harapan for a better Malaysia," he said, adding that the core issues Harapan will focus on are welfare, economy and education.

In the meantime, Rafizi said the coalition will work to build momentum and allow room for more in-depth debate on the issues by stakeholders.

He said the comprehensive policy document of Harapan will be unveiled at the coalition's convention in July.

On a separate matter, Rafizi said PKR will discuss behind closed doors PAS' complaints of PKR leaders attending functions organised by Parti Amanah Negara in Kelantan.

Amanah is a splinter party of PAS. It is a coalition partner of PKR and DAP but is seen as an enemy by PAS.

PAS has also refused to work with DAP and PKR is the only party which it has relations with.

"I have been informed of the matter and it will be discussed by the party.

"God willing, after discussions with the political bureau, this matter will also be discussed with PAS behind closed doors," he said.
