Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has called on all parties to stop openly speculating and let Pakatan Harapan's presidential council decide on the seats to be contested by the party.

"Issues and suggestion about this should be brought to the presidential council through proper channel and not openly aired and debated through the media," party communications director Khalid Samad told reporters at PKR headquarters today.

He said that PKR Youth secretary Chang Lih Kang shouldn't have discussed his suggestion in the open as it might portray as if the newly constituted Harapan is at odds over the matter.

Khalid was responding to Chang ( photo ) who had said that DAP should swap half of Chinese majority seats with Amanah to show that it is sincere with its multi-racial claims.

“This is so that it will not be seen as a public argument, though we know it was only a suggestion. We do not want to be seen as arguing. So any suggestions from any party must be made through the Harapan presidential council," he stressed.

In return for giving its winnable seats to Amanah, Chang had argued that DAP can contest in mixed or Malay majority seats that is to be allocated to the PAS splinter party.

The Teja assemblyperson added that while DAP and indeed Harapan risk losing half the seats that the socialist democratic party currently holds if Amanah were to lose, they can kill two birds with one stone as it will guarantee Amanah a sizable proportion of seats while helping to chip away at DAP's 'anti-malay' image.

The issue of seats to be allocated to Amanah is the second topic to become fodder for speculation after the slight tussle over allocations of Selangor local council seats to the fledgling splinter party.

It is widely believed that Amanah will take on the Malay majority and urban-mixed seats usually allocated to former Pakatan Rakyat member PAS which has declared war on the party and declined to join Harapan or commit to straight opposition-BN fights in the coming elections.
