Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad will turn chauffeur to help raise funds for tsunami victims, driving the highest bidders around Malaysia's Formula One racetrack at a special event on Sunday.

Mahathir, 80, who was the driving force behind the establishment of the Sepang track as part of the Formula One tour, will do three laps in a Porsche Cayenne, carrying three passengers on each circuit, track manager Ahmad Mustafa said.

All money raised from a series of activities at the track will go to the "Racers in aid of the tsunami victims fund", Ahmad told the official Bernama news agency.

Sixty-eight Malaysians were among the more than 157,000 people killed around Asia when the tsunami struck on December 26.
