Kedah PAS said the best resolution to the state Umno's apparent revolt against Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir is through fresh polls.

State PAS commissioner Ahmad Fakhruddin Syeikh Fakhrurazi said this in reference to the move by a faction of Kedah Umno aligned to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak which declared that they had lost confidence in Mukhriz's leadership.

The rebels, led by Kedah Umno deputy chief Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah (picture), had also called for Najib to intervene and replace Mukhriz as menteri besar.

However, Ahmad Fakhruddin said BN had won Kedah in the 13th general election by touting Mukhriz as the future menteri besar at that time.

"Therefore is would only be appropriate that the mandate be given back to the rakyat to make a new decision," he said in a statement last night.

He urged Mukhriz to seek an audience with the Kedah sultan to ask for a dissolution of the state assembly and pave the way to new elections.

He added Ahmad Bashah's claim that Mukhriz had failed in leading the state government ultimately also meant that the entire BN leadership had failed.

Ahmad Fakhruddin said PAS is prepared to act as the alternative to Kedah BN which is in disarray and believed the rakyat will make the right choice.
