Self-proclaimed 'IS terrorist' sent to psychiatric hospital
The Magistrate's Court in Kuala Lumpur today ordered a man claiming to be a member of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group to undergo a one-month mental health evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan, Perak.
Magistrate Husna Dzulkifly issued the order against Muhammad Hudzaifah Shubli Yasin, 30, a former student of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) Malaysia, under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Zikri Jaafar had applied to refer the accused to the hospital.
Muhammad Hudzaifah Shubli was brought to court to face a charge of criminal intimidation with intent to cause fear.
He allegedly told a soldier that he was carrying a bomb at the guard post of the entrance to Kem Kementah, Jalan Padang Tembak, Wangsa Maju, at 8.10pm on Jan 20.
The accused, who was also a candidate for the 2012 Student Representative Council in UIA, was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum prison sentence of two years or a fine, or both, on conviction.
While in the dock, Muhammad Hudzaifah Shubli laughed and did not answer the questions asked by the magistrate.
"Please be quiet, the court is in session, you have to listen to the charge first," said the magistrate. But the accused ignored her and remained noisy.
The atmosphere in the court became boisterous when the accused who was wearing an orange coloured shirt, refused to answer Husna, insisting the incident was not his fault.
"I don't know. I understand the charge but it should be corrected. Remember, I do not like it when someone tries to provoke me," he said raising his voice after the charge was read to him.
Husna: "Your case is being referred to the Tanjung Rambutan Hospital forobservation."
Accused: "Tanjung Rambutan? Can I go to HKL (Hospital Kuala Lumpur), my specialist doctor is there, can I?"
As he was being led away, Muhammad Hudzaifah Shubli was heard uttering a prayer and then said to Husna, "I am not afraid and intimidated by the power of the creatures on this earth, I only fear the power of Allah. Allahuakbar!"
The court fixed Feb 29 for re-mention of the case.
