End the antics, just name who scapegoated you, Sirul told

Convicted murderer Sirul Azhar Umar should just come right out to reveal the parties he had once claimed scapegoated him in the slaying of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.

DAP Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh derided Sirul's latest video as "antics" that failed to address central questions surrounding the highly publicised murder.

He cited certain claims made in Sirul's unsworn statement from the dock during his trial which were rejected from the proceedings, in which the latter had claimed "they" were making him a scapegoat.

"[...] bagi saya tindakan mereka ini semata-mata bertujuan untuk mendapatkan sabitan terhadap saya sebagai 'kambing hitam' yang harus dikorbankan (to me, it is as if their sole intention is to secure a conviction against me as a scapegoat that has to be sacrificed)," Ramkarpal cited Sirul saying in the said statement.

"It is clear from Sirul’s own statement [...] that he did not know Altantuya or have any dealings with her.

"As such, he could not have known if she was pregnant or not at the time of her death," said Ramkarpal, referring to the contents of a second video reported by Malaysiakini yesterday.

In the video, Sirul blamed the media for spreading the misconception that Altantuya had been carrying a child at the time of her death.

'Name your masters'

"Sirul’s claim that he was made a scapegoat may carry water, and it is unlikely that he had any motive to kill Altantuya.

"He would do well to tell us who are the 'mereka' he was referring to in his statement.

"Perhaps then, the nation would have an idea as to who really intended Altantuya’s murder.

"Until then, let us not be unnecessarily swayed by the antics of this convicted murderer whose credibility is seriously compromised," said the MP.

Former police commando Sirul, who has since fled to Australia, was along with partner Azilah Hadri finally sentenced to death last year for Altantuya's murder at a jungle clearing atop a hill at Shah Alam between 10pm and 1am on July 18 and 19, 2006.

Critics of the lengthy trial and its appeal and counter-appeal have attacked the government for not pursuing the motive of the murder, which the courts have not established through all the proceedings.

Azilah meanwhile is seeking clemency from the Selangor palace.
