PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz today expressed confidence that the Islamic party will retake Kedah in the next national polls, in light of the recent political chaos in the state as Umno leaders turn against MB Mukhriz Mahathir.

"We are confident that with such political developments, PAS has demonstrated enough maturity to show the rakyat that it can take things in hand, and recent events have demonstrated that BN is growing weaker in the state.

"Though even without the ongoing crisis, we are confident that we will win. The crisis has only added to our momentum in retaking Kedah," he told reporters at a restaurant in Damansara today.

He said this when asked about the possibility of PAS retaking the northern state, in light of the ongoing crisis.

The political situation in Kedah heated up recently after most of the state Umno leadership openly announced their loss of confidence in Mukhriz's leadership as MB and state Umno liaison chief.

Prior to Mukhriz becoming MB in the last general elections, PAS had helmed the state under the leadership of its MB at the time, the late Azizan Abdul Razak.

Commenting further, the Pasir Mas MP said that while PAS had lost Kedah in the last national polls, he believed voting patterns have revealed that its support base in the state is still strong.

"Kedah has shown their confidence in the new PAS leadership lineup. This support can be seen as when PAS had lost Kedah... our defeat (then) was not that bad," he pointed out.
