Residents of Kampung Beting Lintang, near Besut, were shocked by the discovery of an object believed to be a part of an aircraft at the Beting Lintang beach near Kampung Raja yesterday.

The object was found by a villager, Zakaria Muhammad, 26, while walking on the beach with his children.

The discovery has led to speculation that it may belong to Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 that disappeared almost two years ago.

Zakaria, when met by Bernama, said that initially it did not occur to him that the wreckage could have been a part of MH370.

"However, after closer inspection of the two-metre object, it crossed my mind that it may belong to the missing aircraft. When I pulled it out of the water, I realised that it was a stainless aluminum metal," he said.

Meanwhile, district police chief Khaled Che Lah, when contacted, confirmed the discovery by the villager.

He said police have been sent to the location and the object would be brought to the Kampung Raja Police headquarters in Besut as soon as possible for inspection by the relevant authorities.
