DAP should stay out of the constituencies that PAS wants to contest in Sarawak to avoid creating multi-cornered fights, said the Islamist party's deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

"We hope DAP won't contest where PAS will contest, to avoid multi-cornered fights," he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

PAS election director Mustafa Ali, who was also present, said PAS will only try to avoid clashing with PKR in the land of the hornbills.

"We don't talk to DAP. We will talk with PKR and try our best not to fight against them. But only with PKR," Mustafa said.

If there are multi-cornered fights, Tuan Ibrahim expressed confidence that PAS still stood a chance.

"We look at the demography of each constituency, there is chance. Even if it is a three-cornered fight, it doesn't mean we don't stand a chance," he said.

Give birth to first elected rep

Meanwhile, Mustafa expressed confidence that the Islamist party will “give birth” to its first elected representative in Sarawak in the upcoming state election.

He said the party has identified 11 candidates and one of them will be a non-Muslim from Dewan Himpunan Penyokong PAS.

“Our confidence level, of course, is not that we will all seats but, Insya Allah, this will be the first time we will get our ‘first born’ in Sarawak.

“Our first born can be one (candidate) or twins (two candidates),” said Mustafa.

PAS had previously announced that it would be fielding 11 candidates and is prepared to face any rivals, including from the DAP.

From the 11 candidates, nine will be fielded in existing seats while two others are slated to contest in new constituencies created during the last redelineation exercise that saw the creation of 11 new seats.
