The Johor state government will adopt more radical economic plans following the current unfavourable economic conditions, said Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He said the state, which did not want to rely on old thinking and culture of developing the economy, would explore new growth areas like creative industry, green economy, entrepreneurship and innovations.

"The focus on these areas will enable Johor to become an economic power in the region and not as part of the Malaysian economy," he said.

He said this in his keynote address to civil servants at the Johor Menteri Besar Mandate 2016 in Johor Baru today.

Khaled said the move to adopt more radical plans would also inspire the state to try alternative economic concept that was society-inspired rather than be dependent on the state government.

He said for the past three years, the state has achieved encouraging growth rate following the successful implementation of dynamic plans and policies and this has made its economy the most dynamic after Kuala Lumpur.

"Last year, the state recorded over RM30 billion in investments compared with RM21.2 billion in 2014.

"The state's gross domestic product grew by 6.5 percent to RM93.72 billion," he said.
