An immobile, obese 60-year-old woman had to taken in a lorry by firemen to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh, today when she had breathing difficulties.

Zubidah Udin, who weighs about 250kg, was brought to the hospital from her home in Simpang Pulai.

Simpang Pulai Fire and Rescue Station operations chief, Ali Hairi Sulaiman said they received a call about 12.50pm from a medical officer of the hospital to transfer Zubidah out.

"She had been bedridden and could not move, so we used a utility vehicle (lorry) which is equipped with facilities that could transfer an obese person.

"Six firemen were involved in the operation, assisted by six personnel from the hospital,” he said when contacted.

Ali Hairi said the patient was given immediate treatment by the ambulance staff before she was taken to hospital for further treatment.
