Resigned finance minister Daim Zainuddin has left for his hometown in Alor Setar, Kedah, at about 5.30pm today.

Journalists who had been staking out his house in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur, were informed about his departure by the security guard at 9.30pm.

The guard also relayed the former minister's apologies to the journalists for not being able to speak with them. However, Daim reportedly said he would talk to the press when he gets back to Kuala Lumpur next Tuesday.

Daim resigned from his government positions and as Umno treasurer yesterday. Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad confirmed this today, adding that no reasons were given by Daim.
