Singaporean loses RM40,000 handbag in KL 'smash-and-snatch'

A Singaporean woman lost approximately RM40,000 when her branded handbag was snatched by two men who smashed her car window.

Dang Wangi District Police Chief ACP Zainol Samah said in the incident at about 2pm yesterday, the car she was travelling in together with her family stopped at the traffic light junction at the Yayasan Tun Razak Building, Jalan Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the victim was in the front passenger seat when two suspects on a motorcycle smashed the car window and seized her handbag containing a handphone, cash and other valuable items.

"Soon after that, the victim's son, aged 20 years, used the IPhone tracker application and caught a man at 3.30pm in Taman Mulia Cheras," he said in a statement today.

Zainol said the victim's son managed to retrieve all the items belonging to his mother except her handbag before he lodged a police report.

He said police then detained the suspect, in his 20s, who was remanded for five days from today.

He added that police were in the midst of tracking down the other suspects.
