Amanah contesting PAS seats, worried they’ll fall to Umno

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) plans to contest all PAS seats not because it was rejected by PKR and DAP, but because the party is worried the seats will go to Umno.

Selangor Amanah Youth chief Abbas Azmi said this in refuting Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Ab Samad who said that Amanah wants to contest in all PAS seats because its pleas to contest in PKR and DAP seats were rejected by both parties.

“The Selangor PAS commissioner’s statement that Amanah will contest in all of PAS’ seats because it was rejected by DAP and PKR is baseless,” said Abbas in a statement today.

Amanah, he said, is only taking its responsibility in its political collaboration with Pakatan Harapan in which PAS is not a member.

“So it is only apt that Amanah takes over PAS’ seats because we are worried that the seats will become Umno-BN’s in the next general election.

“Amanah and Pakatan Harapan’s focus is to defeat Umno-BN,” he added.

“The issue of rejection by any Pakatan Harapan component parties does not arise.”

Iskandar yesterday said he believes that PKR and DAP were unlikely to give up any seats to Amanah to contest in Selangor.

He was responding to a report that Selangor Amanah was ready to take on its PAS counterparts in the next national polls.

He, however, dismissed Amanah as not being a serious threat to PAS.
