No opposition event will be complete without any mudslinging aimed at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Often at such events, the mud will splatter and also hit Najib's lieutenants in the cabinet.

However, the cabinet was completely spared at an event in front of the Sungai Buloh Prison last night to mark one year since PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was imprisoned for Sodomy II.

The splatter was instead aimed completely at attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali, who, after Najib, was the second most insulted man at the do.

Among those taking shots at the top lawyer were Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, PKR's Dr Xavier Jeyakumar and PSM central committee member S Arutchelvan.

"We used to say that Abu Talib Othman was the worst AG. Then we said Abdul Gani Patail was the worst.

"Now we say Apandi is the worst. Well the truth is, whoever becomes the AG will be the prime minister's lackey," Arutchelvan said in his speech.

Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad said Apandi was "crazy" for wanting to punish whistleblowers with life imprisonment under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

"Well we are not afraid of your (Najib's) new AG," Khalid added.

The hate for Apandi comes two weeks after the AG cleared Najib of any wrongdoing in the RM2.6 billion donation and SRC International Sdn Bhd cases.

Apandi was appointed attorney-general last August, after his predecessor Gani was suddenly removed due to "health reasons".

Gani was at the time heading a joint taskforce investigating 1MDB, SRC, and the RM2.6 billion that was put into Najib’s personal banks accounts.

Besides Najib and Apandi, only two other people have had mud thrown at them.

The first was PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, whose party was absent at the event lasy night.

DAP Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim ( photo ), who was wearing a pink shirt, took the opportunity to make veiled jabs at Hadi, who shared a stage with Najib last November in matching pink Baju Melayu.

"My pink shirt has no hidden meaning. My pink shirt still means that I am ‘beristiqamah’ (steadfast) in fighting BN," Ng said.

The other casualty to have mud thrown at him was Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Ahmad Maslan.

"If Anwar had not fought against Umno, I might be sitting next to Ahmad now.

"For that I am eternally grateful… because of Anwar I am not an (Umno) macai (goon)," PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli quipped.

Ahmad is often demonised as a bumbling fool, after his many gaffes, the latest of which was that Malaysians should take on two jobs to survive the high cost of living.
