Every working visit that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak makes is all for him to be with the rakyat.

“(It’s) […] to listen to their problems and to find solutions together,” he said in his latest blog post.

Commenting on his working visits made throughout the country in the past two years, Najib believes that the rakyat were accepting of such an approach as their problems could be solved sooner.

However, he admitted that more could be improved when it comes to such working visits.

As such, Najib said he had advised the cabinet in its first meeting for the year last month to spend its allocations wisely.

“This includes expenditures for my working visits as well as other ministers. Based on my observations during my recent working visits, I can see there are still ways where we can reduce our spending.

“I am thankful of all the preparations made for me. I understand that there are protocols to be followed, but whenever possible, we should reduce preparations on things such as the red carpet and special dishes.

“Our main focus is the rakyat and not protocols,” said Najib.

His remarks today come as he is set to attend the US-Asean summit in California next week.

Wisma Putra today said the US-Asean summit on Feb 15 and 16 aims to strengthen dialogue among the countries involved.

Besides attending the summit, Wisma Putra said Najib will also take part in a roundtable meeting with fund managers, meeting captains of industry as well as paying a visit to Apple Inc and TESLA Motors.
