Syed Ali: Let Anwar rest in prison, his political career is dead

Anwar Ibrahim's political career has ended, and he should be left alone to rest in prison, said Cheras Umno chief Syed Ali Alhabshee.

"His political aura is dead and does not have any effect on today's political landscape. His political career is at an end.

"His aura has been buried, faded with time. Let him rest there (in Sungai Buloh Prison) and spend his remaining days as best as possible," Syed Ali said in a blog post today.

Syed Ali was responding to Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who told Malaysiakini that Anwar is still an important factor for Pakatan Harapan.

The Cheras Umno chief, however, said the people are tired of Anwar, and his image has fallen after being convicted of sodomy.

He added that Anwar is no longer the young leader he was back in the 1970s.

"The fact is, times have changed. Anwar's image has been sullied because of the sodomy case, and he is being forgotten," Syed Ali said.

Anwar was sentenced to five years in jail last year after the Federal Court upheld his conviction in the sodomy case.

Yesterday marked one year since he was incarcerated.
