If given the chance, renowned local director Aziz M Osman is definitely interested to direct a film on the late former PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s plan to implement hudud in Kelantan.

“I would grab the chance if given. This (implementation of hudud) can definitely be turned into a film.

“The film would be greater than Dilwale ,” said Aziz, citing the Bollywood box office film starring top Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

Aziz was speaking at a commemoration ceremony on the late PAS leader at the Myharakah Bazaar in Kuala Lumpur today.

Hudud, said the director, should be accepted by all quarters regardless of political affiliations.

Therefore, he is more than ready to use a film as the platform to educate the society about the Islamic law.

“Everyone must accept the concept of hudud; it doesn’t matter whether you are from Umno or PAS. The knowledge about hudud must be presented like how the late Tok Guru (Nik Aziz) did it.

“Using psychology, he had implemented hudud through educational means,” he said.

Citing a recent trip to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Aziz said he was a spectator to an implementation of hudud.

“When I was in Mecca, I saw people gathering as hudud was about to be implemented. But I didn’t watch it till the end as my child wanted to return to the hotel.

“But I asked my friend to tell me what happened after that. Hudud was not implemented as the family of the victim forgave the wrongdoer.

“Hudud teaches us not to commit mistakes and that is what we want to present,” he said.

After a long bout of illness, Nik Aziz passed away at the age of 84 on Feb 12, a year ago.

The Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment II 1993, a hudud legislation, was introduced under his rule but never enforced due to opposition from the federal government.
