Tiong: SPDP willing to switch seats with SUPP

The Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) is prepared to switch seats with the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) in the coming 11th state election.

The switch would involve several seats in Sibu and Sarikei, SPDP president Tiong King Sing said today.

"We are interested in the Dudong, Meradong, Repok and Pelawan state seats, if SUPP agrees to it," he said, adding that SPDP was prepared to make the switch because it did not have any seat in Sibu.

Speaking to reporters at a Chinese New Year Open House in Sibu, Tiong - who is Bintulu MP - said SPDP was waiting for feedback from SUPP on the matter.

Tiong said SPDP was also eyeing for two new state seats, Mulu and Samalaju, because the party had between 5,000 and 6,000 members in both constituencies.

However, he said he would leave the matter to Chief Minister Adenan Satem - who is also the state BN chairperson - to decide the matter.

In the last state election, SPDP contested in Tasik Biru, Krian, Pakan, Meluan, Bekenu, Ba’Kelalan, Batu Danau and Marudi.
